Convection currents within a liquid cause patterns of movement on the surface. These
patterns can be visualized by adding highly reflective aluminum powder to the
liquid. The powder alignment within the liquid then allows us to visualize
these motions. Sometimes the powder accumulates on the surface and these
islands, while not of great significane on their own, sometimes acquire
interesting shapes in their own right.
