Help develop new methods for measuring turbulence quantities 24/7 at the cabled ocean "observatories" (seafloor installations capable of providing long time series of physical and biological ocean properties) that will soon be commonly available oceanographic monitoring and research tools. web.odu.edu/webroot/orgs/sci/colsciences.nsf/pages/ocen-gra |
| | | PhD project: Modelling of pore-scale migration of CO2 in porous media This PhD project is computational and theoretical. It will aim to develop a pore scale numerical model of CO2/brine two-phase flow in porous media. The model will directly solve the fundamental mass, momentum and energy balance equations within a domain of a true representation of the pore geometry. It will be used to enhance knowledge and understanding of the small-scale processes occurring during CO2 migration through porous media. The numerical simulations will be used to produce improved relationships for use with large-scale simulations.
The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary consortium to study the migration of carbon dioxide in porous media under conditions of saline aquifers encountered in Carbon Capture and Storage. This is a collaborative project between Universities of Sheffield, Aberdeen and Leeds and Tsinghua University of China and is co-funded by EPSRC and National Science Foundation of China (NSFC). This major project comprises experimental, computational and theoretical studies.
Candidates for this post must hold at least a UK upper-second class honours degree (or equivalent) in engineering, applied mathematics or physics. Background in computational fluid dynamics, two phase flow, and/or flow in porous media is desirable, as well as experience in programming/numerical methods. www.abdn.ac.uk/cops/graduate/phd-vacancies-347.php |
